You can be an artist
Anyone can draw, paint, and be creative.

Sure, some people seem to have been born with it, but most good artists have to work at it. They practice, they make lots of mistakes, and they get frustrated—just like you.

For me, producing bad paintings is par for the course. It happens to everyone. It happened to artists like Leonardo, Van Gogh, Monet, and Wyeth. They're good, but remember that we don't see all the work they destroyed.

What's the first step?
The first step is easy. You just have to give it a try. You can start by doing one or more of the following:

attending a session with a local art group.
taking a non-credit course at a school, church, or college.
reading an book about developing your skills
watching an instructional video or DVD.
sitting down all by yourself or with a friend and doing something creative.
saying to yourself: "I'm not afraid to take a few chances, and I'm not afraid to fail."

Welcome to Art Pages 101

It's all about art, and you're going to love it.

Purpose
Art Pages 101 is my effort to encourage artists to get out of their ruts and be more creative. It's about experimenting, taking chances, and having fun.

Another goal is to encourage non-artists—if there is such a thing—to give art a try.

Please browse the site, look at the art in the Gallery, check out the book and film reviews, and learn from the regularly updated Art Pages, tips, information, history, and some mindless babbling.

New pages pop up on a regular basis, so visit often. At the moment, I'm updating the site and you'll see several "under construction" notices. Believe me—they will be updated soon. No joke!
